Winter is fast approaching, and the dip in the temperature is a timely reminder to assess your home to make sure it is ready to face the challenges of the colder months. Carrying out a few simple jobs now could well save you time, money and stress as many home emergencies can be avoided by some simple forward planning. Many tasks are easy enough to do yourself, but if you are struggling to find the time, maintenance companies can provide a range of appropriate services.

Better safe than sorry

Firstly, check your gutters, and give them a good clean out if required. Ensure that outlets and downpipes are clear of debris, and fix any gutters that are leaking. Blocked gutters can freeze and part company from the building, which can be expensive to rectify. And you may also be risking the possibility of burst pipes.

It is also a good idea to have a good look at your roof at this time of year. From ground level, you should be able to see if any slates or tiles are missing, and don’t forget to check your upstairs ceilings for signs of leaks.

Another job which is well worth getting out of the way before the weather hits is any exterior paintwork which requires attention. A good paint job does a great deal to protect against the ravages of the British climate, so it makes sense to get a quote from a reputable firm of painters in your area.

Money Saving

As the mercury drops, most of us will be relying upon our central heating to keep us warm and snug. It is therefore a good idea get your boiler serviced. This will not only prevent it breaking down when you most need it, but could also save you money in running costs.
